Messaging members
Updated 17 July 2026
You can message any member of your app directly from the dashboard. Members receive your messages in the Messages area of your mobile app, exactly like a message from another member, and their replies land back in your inbox in real time.
Start a direct conversation
- Open Messages from the sidebar.
- Click the compose button (the pencil icon) beside the search field.
- Search for the member and select them.
If you already have a conversation with that member, Kinflo opens the existing thread rather than creating a duplicate, so your history stays in one place.
Create a group chat
The same compose popover lets you create a group. Pick several members, give the group a name, and the conversation opens straight away. After creating a group you can polish it from the three-dot menu in the chat header:
- Edit group name renames the group for everyone.
- Change group image uploads a group photo that members see in their own app.
- View members lists everyone in the group, with a crown badge on group admins.
Send photos and videos
Use the attachment button to the left of the message input to send media. Images open full size when clicked, and videos play inline in the thread. If an attachment fails to send you will see an error toast so you can try again.
Tip: members can also share posts from the feed into a conversation. Shared posts appear in the thread as a "Shared post" card.
Keep notifications under control
Every conversation can be muted independently. Open the three-dot menu in the chat header and choose Mute notifications; the row will confirm "Notifications are muted" and you can unmute the same way at any time. Muting only affects you, not the member.
Message from a member's profile
You do not have to start in Messages. Anywhere you see a member's profile drawer, such as the members table or inside a chat, you have their identity to hand, and the inbox compose search will find them by name in a couple of keystrokes.
Messaging is best for personal, one-to-one conversations, welcoming a new member, answering a support question, or checking in. If you want to reach your whole audience at once, use a push notification from the Marketing section instead; see Sending push notifications.
