The inbox
Updated 17 July 2026
Messages is your direct line to members. It is a two-panel inbox: the conversation list sits on the left, and the open chat thread fills the right. On smaller screens the panels stack, so you see the list first and tap into a chat, with a back arrow to return.
Find a conversation
The left panel lists every conversation, newest activity first. Each row shows the member's avatar, their name, a preview of the last message and how long ago it arrived. Photo messages preview as "Photo" and shared posts as "Shared a post".
Use the Search conversations field at the top of the list to filter by member name or message content. If a conversation has messages you have not read yet, a red pill on the row shows the unread count, and the Messages item in the sidebar carries a matching unread badge so you never miss anything while working elsewhere in the dashboard.
Read and reply
Select a conversation to open the thread. Messages are grouped under date separators (Today, Yesterday, then full dates), with your replies on the right and the member's messages on the left. Type into the Type a message field and press Enter or the send button. You can also attach images and videos from the attachment button beside the input.
Everything is delivered in real time. New messages from members appear in the thread and bump the conversation list instantly, with no need to refresh.
Manage a conversation
The three-dot button in the chat header opens Chat info (or Group info for group chats). From here you can:
- View profile to open the member's profile drawer without leaving the inbox.
- Mute notifications or Unmute notifications for just this conversation.
- Block user or Report user on a direct chat.
- On groups: Edit group name, Change group image, View members and leave or delete the group.
In a direct chat you can also click View profile next to the member's name in the header. Group chats show the participant count under the group name.
Tip: group chats mark group admins with a crown badge in the members list, so you can see at a glance who runs the space.
Start something new
The compose button (the pencil icon next to search) opens a popover where you can start a one-to-one conversation with any member or create a new group. See Messaging members for the full flow.
