Menus: the tab bar and drawer

The Menus tab of the Style Manager is where you design your members' navigation: the tab bar along the bottom of the app, and the drawer menu that slides in from the side. A live preview shows your arrangement as you build it.
The tab bar
The tab bar is your app's prime real estate, the destinations members can reach in one tap. It holds a maximum of five items: Home plus up to four more. Home is always there, because your homepage (built in the homepage builder) is the app's anchor.
Drag items into the tab bar to add them, drag within it to reorder, and drag out to remove. Each item shows its icon and label exactly as members will see them, and you can edit both.
Some tab items are actions rather than destinations, for example the Feed's Add item, which opens the post composer rather than switching screens.
The drawer
Everything that does not earn a tab bar slot can live in the drawer. It has two areas:
- Main, the primary list of destinations.
- Footer, a secondary area at the bottom, suited to things like settings or account items.
Drawer items can also be marked admin-only, so tools meant for you and your team never appear for ordinary members.
Where items come from
The items you can place are driven by your app's features:
- Always available, Profile, Search, Messages, Notifications, Analytics and Premium (each appearing when its underlying capability is on).
- Feature items, each enabled feature contributes its destinations: Feed and Add post (Feed), Courses, Storefront, Events, Bookings, Loyalty card, Content Pages and so on.
If a feature is disabled at Manage Features, its items are not available to place, and disabling a feature later removes its items from members' navigation automatically. A few items are marked coming soon and cannot be placed yet.
Tab bar strategy: give the four non-Home slots to the places members should visit daily, typically Feed, plus your main monetisation surface (Courses or Storefront), plus one more. Everything else belongs in the drawer. Fewer, stronger tabs beat a crowded bar.
Saving and previewing
The Menus tab uses the same save model as the rest of the Style Manager: arrange freely, then press Save in the header to push the new navigation to your live app, it updates within seconds. Use the Preview on device button to feel the new navigation under your thumb, tab bars that look fine on a desktop mockup can feel cramped on a real phone.
Undo (Cmd-Z), Reset and the History drawer all work here too, so you can experiment without fear.
