Categories

Updated 17 July 2026

Categories keep a growing shop browsable. They appear as a filter on your dashboard's Products tab and organise how products are grouped for members in the app.

Add a category

  1. Open Storefront and switch to the Categories tab.
  2. Type a name into the New category name field.
  3. Click Add Category (or press Enter).

Category names must be unique; if you try to add a duplicate you will see "A category with that name already exists".

Assign products to a category

Categories do not contain products by themselves. Open a product from the Products tab and pick the category in the product drawer's Category dropdown, then save. Each category row on the Categories tab shows a live count of how many products currently use it.

Rename a category

Click the pencil icon on a category row, edit the name inline, then confirm with the green tick (or press Enter). Press Escape or the cross to cancel. Products in the category pick up the new name automatically.

Reorder categories

Use the up and down arrows on the left of each row to change the order. This is the order categories appear in filter dropdowns, so put your most important ranges first.

Delete a category

Click the bin icon on the row and confirm. Deleting a category does not delete or unassign its products; they keep their existing label, but the category no longer appears as a filter option. If you want those products under a different category, edit them individually afterwards.

Tip: start with a handful of broad categories rather than many narrow ones. You can always split a busy category later, and renames are painless.

Related settings

  • New products default to No category, which is fine for small shops; the category filter simply shows fewer options.
  • The visual treatment of the shop (product cards, badges, the product page) is styled in the Style Manager under the Storefront scope, not on this tab.
  • For adding the products themselves, see Adding products.
